Pre-Noah or Pre-Flood

In archeological findings, some mention is made of the earliest people in Ireland. But the first specific characters mentioned in connection to arriving in Ireland are from Keating's compilation "The History of Ireland", where he references the daughters of Cain the son of Adam (source not described). From Keating, and The Book of Invasions, the next arrival is 40 days before the said worldwide deluge "flood of Noah", and include the following:

  • Cessair ++ daughter of Brith, elsewhere said to be the daughter of a Greek and grand-daughter of Noah
    ariving "with fifty girls" including:
  • Eaba ++ the lady who was physician to Cessair
    and "thee men":
  • Brith ++ son of Noah, or the Bith said to have a burial mound in Slieve Beagh perhaps on the border of Fermanagh and Monaghan
  • Ladra ++ said to be the first person to ever die in Ireland
  • Fintan ++ sailed with Cessair, elsewhere named Fintain
Of these, it is said that Fintan survived the flood, because his form was changed into a salmon, or he hid in a cave for a year. They say he was later re-humanized or re-introduced to tell his tale of survival. Keating refutes and explains this.(#)

  • Banba ++ or Banbha, an earlier arrival, or alternate name of Cessair. Used as a name for Ireland.
