Incoming Project: Italians mining in Alberta Canada
One of our visitors has been researching the Italian settlers and miners of Crowsnest Valley in the Canadian Rockies in Alberta Canada.
Now a National Heritage Site of Canada, the ghost town of Coleman Canada in Albert province was once a thriving Italian community of miners.
The first store also facilitated the Italian Benevolent Societies and a community hall. The Canadian goverment is trying to protect and preserve the old mining area and remaining structures of the community, with the strugles of preserving the history of these persons.
Unfortunately, vandalism and grafiti, wear of time, and development companies encroaching, are threatening these historic memories.
Materials reviewed and background so far have been limited to the internet.
If you have similar interests, further information, contacts, researchers, archives, or are familiar with these areas, they would be glad to communicate with you.
