Douglas Hyde

Douglas Hyde, former President of The Republic of Ireland, Literary Scholar, and Gaelic Revivalist, provides an excellent summary, introduction, and commentary on many of the early genealogical lineages proported to include roots through Ireland, in his wonderful book: "A Literary History of Ireland: from the earliest times to the present day".

He emphasises that the literary materials are the very foundation of the history of Ireland, in which every event and placename includes pedegrees and genealogies, the poetic forms and the gaelic language.
