Principal Lineages of Ireland

The most common and traditionally accepted descendancy lists of Ireland, geographically defined, and extending to our modern age, typically begin with the Gaelic "Milesian" immigration, and flow genealogically, through Ith, brother of Miledh, and via the three children of Miledh: Eremon, Eber, and Ir.

The gatekeeper date of these Ireland Ancestors varies from 1500 B.C. to 700 B.C. to 500 B.C.

According to Douglas Hyde, former President of The Republic of Ireland, Literary Scholar, and Gaelic Revivalist, these island based national lineages, were passed along by pre-written, pre-Patrick, pre-Christian inhabitants, from a much earlier point in Ireland history -- either verbally, or by pre-Latin runic script. These claims coalesed into known native manuscripts dated from 350 A.D., many of which have become lost, but some of which are said to have been transcribed into Gaelic, Latin, and English from 1000 A.D. to 1640 A.D.. Apparently, the surviving books and manuscripts sought to substantiate the earlier undocumented and/or written materials.

Regards what these sources have told us about the "Milesians" prior to their settling in Ireland, see also the references in our Start menu under Ancient Lines and PreMelisian Lines.
